Past TCW Minutes

TCW Minute: Man’s Work v. Christ’s Work (Week of April 29, 2019)

Only two religions.  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

Jewish radio host Dennis Prager and Christian pastor Alistair Begg recently took part in an event to discuss theological issues.

Their interchange made clear that all religions, including some Christian ones, are based on man earning favor through doing works.  Only biblical Christianity is based on Christ earning favor for us through His work on the cross.

It’s the difference that makes all the difference.

Romans 4 says, Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness.  Romans 4:4-5a

TCW Minute: The Believer’s Union with Christ (Week of April 22, 2019)

The believer’s union with Christ.  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

One of the most important—yet under-emphasized—doctrines is the believer’s union with Christ in His death and resurrection.

Paul writes in Romans 6: For if we have become united with Christ in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection.

This means that just as Christ died to sin on the cross, believers should consider themselves dead to sin as well.  And just as Christ rose victoriously over sin and death, believers can have the same victory over sin and will be raised from the dead.

This truth is received by faith in the fact of Christ’s work.

TCW Minute: Pete Buttigieg and a False Gospel (Week of April 15, 2019)

Pete Buttigieg and a false gospel.  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

A relatively unknown 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana named Pete Buttigieg is running third in the Democrat nomination for president.

Buttigieg is a Harvard graduate, Rhodes Scholar, and U.S. Navy veteran.

He is also a “married homosexual” who speaks frequently of his progressive Christian faith, asserting the gospel is about helping the poor, the stranger, the hurting.

That’s what the Bible calls a false gospel.  1 Corinthians 15 explains the real gospel: “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…”

TCW Minute: Week of April 8, 2019: Faithful in Persecution

Faithful in persecution.  This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian Worldview.

Over the course of American history, Christianity has gone from being revered to being cast aside from public life.

This devolution is occurring so rapidly that Christians are marginalized, even persecuted, for holding to orthodox biblical beliefs, particularly on marriage and morality.

Granted, persecution of Christians in America is not comparable to what is being endured by brethren worldwide.  But we might get there and need to rest in what the apostle Paul said about his persecution:

“I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.”
