GUEST: Nancy Pearcey, author, Love Thy Body

Guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”—which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith. 1 Timothy 6:21

A fast-moving moral revolution has been taking place in America over the last 50 years. Morality based on the Bible on issues such as the sacredness of life, one man one women marriage, sexual purity, and biological gender identity has been discarded in favor of widespread murder of the unborn (nearly 60 million since 1973), living together and “hooking up” outside of marriage, and the normalization of homosexuality and transgenderism. The “right to die” (euthanasia) is becoming more popular as well.

What is driving this moral revolution? According to Nancy Pearcey, our guest this weekend, the idea or worldview undergirding it is a dualistic view of man. What does that mean?

Dualism divides the person into mind and body, with the mind holding final authority for decisions and identity while the body and its design are irrelevant. This explains why you will hear a transgender person say: “I was born with a male body but I’m actually female.” In other words, “My body may be saying one thing, but my mind (or emotions) has the final say.”

Nancy Pearcey is the professor of apologetics and scholar in residence at Houston Baptist University. She is also a bestselling author and has a new book, Love Thy Body: Answering Hard Questions about Life and Sexuality.
